Since he first began stealing cars in 1998, he has taken over 5000 cars from various locations across India.

Digital Desk: Anil Chauhan, dubbed "India's top car thief," was apprehended by Delhi Police on suspicion of stealing more than 5,000 vehicles nationwide.

The head of the auto stealing group is Anil Chauhan, 52. Up to 180 cases have been filed against him.

Six country-made pistols, seven live rounds, one stolen motorcycle, and one stolen car were found by the police during the arrest of the suspect.

Who Is Anil Chauhan?

Anil Chauhan, an Assamese native from Tezpur who lives in Khanpur Extension, had completed his education to Class 12. Since he first began stealing cars in 1998, he has taken over 5000 cars from various locations across India.

Anil has already been taken into custody by the police on several occasions and imprisoned. He was sentenced to five years in a criminal case at Nizamuddin police station. 180 criminal cases have already involved him.

Anil Chauhan worked for the Assam government as a Class-I contractor. Later, all of his belongings were taken during a raid by the Enforcement Directorate. Following the bank's sale of all of his belongings, he once more began stealing.

The accused was well known in the northeastern state for smuggling rhinoceros horn.

In 2015, Assam police reportedly also detained Anil Chauhan along with a sitting MLA. The accused- possibly "India's biggest car thief"- had a large family with three wives and seven kids.

How He Was Arrested

Shweta Chauhan, the Deputy Commissioner of police for the central region, stated that the central district's special team has been charged with monitoring illegal arms suppliers' recent uptick in activity in both the central district and Delhi.

The special staff learned of the arrival of Anil Chauhan, India's most wanted auto lifter and supplier of illicit weapons, at the DBG Road police station in the heart of Delhi, and the suspect was detained on August 23, according to the accuser.
