She went on to claim that the church was receiving messages of support from all over the world, including the United States. "Everyone should be out there," says the author. "Pray, reflect, meditate, and send love to this group," she recommended, "because we will need everything."

Digital Desk: One person was killed and two others were wounded in a shooting at a church in a suburb of one of Alabama's main towns on Thursday evening, authorities said, adding that a suspect had been apprehended.

At a press conference, Police Capt. Shane Ware stated the incident happened at Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church in the Vestavia Hills neighbourhood of Birmingham. At 6:22 p.m., dispatchers received a call reporting an active shooter, he said, and police hurried to the church.

According to him, one person was killed and two others were injured in the shooting and were taken to the hospital right away. Ware confirmed that a suspect has been apprehended, but he refused to name the individual or the victims, or to describe how the incident happened.

"We are unaware of new threat to the Vestavia Hills community or the neighbouring areas," Ware told reporters.

Officials from the FBI, US Marshals Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, as well as other local police and fire departments, were dispatched to the area. Investigators remained at the church complex well past midnight, with yellow police tape encircling it and emergency vehicles with flashing lights blocking the entrance.

The Rev. Kelley Hudlow, an Episcopal priest in the Diocese of Alabama, told WBRC that the shooting shook both the church and the community.

"It's incredible." "Saint Stephen's is a community established on love, prayers, and grace, and they are going to come together," she said in a live interview with the station. "People are coming together from all walks of life to pray for healing."

It was the most recent in a succession of violent shootings that has shaken the country. Following recent horrific mass shootings from Buffalo, New York, to Uvalde, Texas, thousands of people marched around the United States and at the National Mall in Washington, DC on Saturday to relaunch a drive for gun control measures. Survivors of mass shootings and other forms of gun violence have also lobbied lawmakers and testified on Capitol Hill this month.
