The guidelines are being released at a time when the COVID19 pandemic is disproportionately affecting individuals with diabetes, putting them at a higher risk of serious disease and death.

Digital Desk: The Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) issued guidelines on Monday for the management of type 1 diabetes. The guidelines are released by Prof. (Dr) Balram Bhargava, Secretary-DHR and DG-ICMR.

Dr. Nikhil Tandon, Head of the Department of Endocrinology at AIIMS Delhi, spoke to ANI about the primary features of the new recommendations for Type 1 Diabetes in Children and Adolescents, as well as the disease's management and complications.

He explained, "Type 1 diabetes usually appears early in life, affecting children and teenagers, resulting in a long amount of time spent living with the disease." It's a potentially life-threatening illness that, if left undetected and/or untreated, can lead to serious metabolic consequences and even death.

"The recommendations offer a practical strategy to treat this illness and its complications." "He stated that endocrinologists, diabetologists, pediatricians, nephrologists, ophthalmologists, cardiologists, neurologists, and nutritionists are among the contributors."

These principles, according to Dr. Nikhil, will provide "As a result, the article offers a multidisciplinary perspective on the complexities of managing this condition. We hope that widespread dissemination and adoption will have a substantial impact on the health of people who are suffering from this condition."
