Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma virtually flagged off the first batch of 'Nano Urea' developed by the Indian Farmers' Fertilizers Cooperation Limited (IFFCO).

Earlier this year, IFFCO introduced the world's first Nano urea fertilizer (liquid) for farmers around the globe.

IFFCO, in a statement, asserted to deal with the imbalance and excessive use of conventional urea, it was introduced in May this year.

Congratulating IFFCO, CM Sarma said, "This initiative by IIFCO is a major boost in the field of agriculture across the globe due to its numbers of benefits."

"With this the transportation and other cost will be reduced as one bottle (500ml) of nano urea will supply the same amount of crop nutrients that one bag (45 kg) of conventional urea provides." added the CM.

CM Sarma suggests IFFCO set up a nano urea plant in Assam. Additionally, he asked IIFCO to take steps for a smooth, timely supply of fertilizer distribution to the state's farmers.

Further, CM claimed, "Centre has spent more than Rs. 55,000 crores towards subsidy for urea during the financial year 2019-20."
