Digital Desk: The  Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden has received 15 new species of animals  following their animal exchange agreement with Chhatbir Zoo in Chandigarh. New zoo inhabitants arrived at the facility on Friday night representing three bird species that began their exhibit at the zoo.

Java Sparrow and Chukar Partridge together with Comb Duck represent three of the new bird species at the zoo. The zoo accepted additional birds consisting of a Golden Pheasant and Emu and Kalij Pheasant and a blackbuck among its latest additions.

The newly introduced avian species are the Java Sparrow, Chukar Partridge, and Comb Duck. The zoo has also welcomed other birds including the Golden Pheasant, Emu, and Kalij Pheasant, along with a blackbuck.
The exchange agreement between institutions includes delivering one female hippopotamus together with two leopards and four pairs of mouse deer from the Assam State Zoo.

Ashwini Kumar, state zoo DFO, said, "These animals which have arrived have been placed under quarantine, where they are being closely monitored and cared for until they acclimatize to their new environment."

Today the zoological park displays a broad collection of 120 animal species that exceed 1,200 animals. The establishment exhibits numerous prominent species among its collection which includes rhinoceros together with tiger and giraffe and lion and kangaroo and orangutan and hoolock gibbon.
