Guwahati: The controversial activist Sikha Sarma who is making headlines for her seditious post about martyrs and the armed forces produced before the court yesterday, following which she was sent to 14 days judicial custody.

The police registered a case against Sarma under Sections 124A (sedition), 294A (keeping lottery office), 500 (defamation) and 506 (criminal intimidation) along with Section 45 (residuary penalty) of IT Act after receiving a complaint from two advocates of Gauhati High Court, Umi Deka Baruah and Kangkana Goswami on Monday.

"She was arrested on Monday night and today we produced her before the Kamrup (Metro) district court. We did not seek police custody. She has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody," Guwahati Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta said.

According to reports, Sikha Sarma on Monday had written on her Facebook account “Salaried professionals who die in the line of duty can’t be termed 'martyrs'. Going by that logic, the workers of the electricity department who die of electrocution should also be labelled martyrs. Do not make people sentiment, media.”

Moreover, Sarma blamed the media and said, my post is misinterpreted by the media. Don’t   make fake news, let’s the court decide about it.
