New Delhi: Delhi reported four new cases of Omicron yesterday, taking the total caseload of the country for the Covid variant to 49.
Delhi reported four new cases of the Omicron variant yesterday, taking the overall toll to 49 in the country. Earlier, a 42-year-old man from Gujarat who recently returned from South Africa tested positive for the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
The man had first tested negative for coronavirus when he arrived in Delhi from South Africa via Kenya and Abu Dhabi on December 3. In his second test on December 4 also, the man tested negative for Covid after which he was briefly hospitalized for isolation. He then tested positive for Covid-with Omicron variant-on December 8, authorities informed.

Meanwhile, seeing the rise in Omicron cases in the national capital, the Chief Minister of Delhi said, "We don't want Omicron to hit Delhi. But if it comes, we are ready for it. If it is needed for the safety and health of the people of Delhi, then we will definitely impose restrictions with experts' recommendation.”
He urged residents of Delhi to avoid crowds and large gatherings in markets. So far, Delhi has reported two Omicron cases.
The government of Delhi is mulling plans to increase curbs on people so as to control the spread of the infection. “We are ready to tackle the Omicron threat. If required, we will impose necessary restriction. Currently, there is no such need,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that several review meetings have been held for the availability of beds, oxygen cylinders and medicines in the hospitals.
“We don’t want Omicron to hit Delhi. But if it comes, we are ready for it. If it is needed for the safety and health of the people of Delhi, then we will definitely impose restrictions with experts’ recommendation,” said Kejriwal.
He urged residents of Delhi to avoid crowds and large gatherings in markets. So far, Delhi has reported 6 Omicron cases.
