People from different backgrounds have condemned this act by the government

Digital DeskDighalipukhuri a heritage site of Guwahati is popular among the people of Assam. A recent incident over a proposed flyover construction from Noonmati to Dighalipukuri has sparked dispute among the citizens of Guwahati against the Assam government, as the project aims at cutting age old trees around the pond.     

People from different backgrounds have condemned this act by the government and protested against the authorities. Artists from different fields of work also joined and came out to voice their concerns, Dr. Maitrayee Patar singer played an important role in this rally as she kept it alive to bring people together against this

injustice. Miss Patar also shared links on social media to sign the petition to
oppose this act.

Artists like Angarag Papon Mahanta, Zubeen Garg, Arghadeep Baruah, Hiren Gohain, Deeplina Deka, and others have expressed their concern about this act and criticized the decision taken by the Assam Government.  

After the buzz being created and seeing the concerns of people on 30th October morning CM Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on X " ‏I want to assure you that the government is deeply committed to preserving our city's heritage and‏ ‏environment while advancing infrastructure. In‏ ‏constructing the flyovers from Dighalupukhuri

to‏ ‏Noonmati, we are sincerely working to protect the‏ ‏old trees in the area. I urge all stakeholders to allow‏ ‏the Public Works Department a few days to explore‏ ‏an alternative proposal and assess its feasibility." The Chief Minister seeks time for the Public Works Department to find an alternative way for this issue.
