Digital Desk: Fresh protests erupted in Bangladesh on Saturday as agitators surrounded the Supreme Court in Dhaka, demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan and other judges within an hour, according to The Daily Star. Tensions escalated after reports surfaced that the Chief Justice had called for a full-court meeting. In response, hundreds of protesters, including students and lawyers, began marching toward the Supreme Court.
Abdul Muqaddim, one of the protest leaders, accused the Chief Justice of conspiring to declare the interim government illegal.
"The fascists are trying to use the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice to declare the interim government illegal. That's why we came to the Supreme Court premises to force the Chief Justice to resign," Muqaddim told The Daily Star.
Asif Mahmud, an adviser to the Sports Ministry in the interim government, also demanded the "unconditional resignation of Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan" and the cancellation of the full-court meeting. Amid rising tensions, the Chief Justice ultimately postponed the meeting, according to the report.
