Digital Desk: Amid the ongoing spike in covid-19 cases in the nation, a total of 338 resident doctors from various hospitals of Maharashtra have tested positive for covid-19 in the last four days, said, Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors (MARD).

“In the four days, 338 resident doctors from various hospitals in Maharashtra have tested positive for COVID-19,” said President of Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), Dr Avinash Dahiphale.

This comes after Maharashtra covid cases reports a sharp increase in the daily instances driven by the new Omicron variant

The state reported 36,265 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, which is 36% high than the previous day. On the other hand, Mumbai, the city’s capital, saw a new high of a total of 20,181 covid-19 infections. Apart from that, Maharashtra has reported 13 deaths and 79 Omicron cases.

Earlier, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the state government has not yet decided to close down the local trains in Mumbai or implement inter-district travel restrictions. Until now, the number of hospitalization is still low.

He also ruled out the chances of a state-wide lockdown at this time.

Further, the health minister added that the Omicron strain affected the upper respiratory tract, especially the nose and throat, rather than the lungs.
