Digital Desk: To avoid a constitutional crisis, the Manipur cabinet decided to hold the much-anticipated Manipur Legislative Assembly monsoon session on August 29.

The Manipur Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister N.Biren Singh, resolved on Monday to hold the 4th Session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly (Monsoon Session) on August 29, 2023, stated in a tweet from the Manipur Chief Minister's Office today.

Despite the Manipur cabinet's recommendation that Governor Anusuiya Uikey convenes an assembly session on Monday, the House did not meet on August 21 because "no notification" had been sent by Raj Bhavan, the authorities stated.

The incident followed after eleven Kuki MLAs from various parties announced their inability to attend the assembly session as the unrest in the northeastern state continued.

"A notification must be issued 15 days before the start of a regular assembly session. The Governor's office has not yet issued such a notification," an official informed those covering the story.

On August 20, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) expressed its displeasure with the delay in summoning the Manipur Legislative Assembly session, despite repeated requests for an emergency session.
