Digital Desk: In a shocking turn of events, the Delhi Police apprehended a cashier from the State Bank of India (SBI) Bishnupur branch in Manipur on Friday, following the mysterious disappearance of a staggering Rs 2 crore in cash along with gold ornaments worth Rs 50 lakh.
The accused, identified as Monarch Laishram, 41, was reportedly on the run after allegedly pilfering a substantial sum from the bank where he worked.
Acting swiftly, the Delhi Crime Branch, in collaboration with the Delhi Police and Bishnupur District police, managed to track down and arrest Laishram in North Delhi, specifically from Patel Chest Christian Colony, opposite Maurice Nagar Police Station, around 5:30 pm.
Laishram, a senior assistant at the SBI Bishnupur branch, had aroused suspicion when he failed to report to work on April 2 without any prior notice. Moreover, it was discovered that he possessed the key to the bank's locker room, where the missing funds were stored. The branch manager lodged a formal complaint with the Nambol Police Station, prompting an investigation into Laishram's whereabouts.
