Digital Desk: The Kolasib district administration in Mizoram has taken a significant step towards animal welfare by issuing a notice that bans the consumption of dog meat during feasts and gatherings in the district. This decision comes after a formal request from the Mizoram State Animal Welfare Board.

The Mizoram State Animal Welfare Board had appealed to the Kolasib district administration to prohibit the consumption of dog meat during social events, aligning with the state's commitment to animal welfare.

This move follows the Mizoram government's previous efforts, including the introduction of the Mizoram Animal Slaughter (Amendment) Bill, 2020, which aimed to clarify that dogs should not be categorized as cattle for slaughter purposes.

The ban on dog meat at feasts and gatherings reflects a growing awareness of animal welfare concerns and signifies a step toward more compassionate practices in the region.
