Digital Desk: An elderly woman from Andheri in Mumbai, who lost Rs 2.40 lakh to cyber fraud while trying to buy sweets for Diwali, approached the local Oshiwara police within an hour of the incident The cyber police section was then able to collect Rs 2.27 lakh, according to the police.
The event happened on October 23 when the woman attempted to use an online food ordering app to get Diwali sweets. She placed a 1,000 rupee order with Tiwari Sweets for sweets. She dialed the mobile number provided in the app because she was unable to make the payment, not realising that it belonged to a cyber-fraudster, according to the police.

She allegedly had Rs. 2.40 lakh was deducted from her account when she shared it. The woman hurried to the neighbourhood of Oshiwara police station after getting notifications from her bank regarding the money transfer, and the officers then got in touch with representatives of two digital payment providers and an e-commerce company.
Manohar Dhanwade, the senior inspector of Oshiwara police station, stated that "We were able to freeze the accounts where the money was transferred and retrieve Rs 2.27 lakh lost in the fraud."
Mumbai Police launched a helpline number in May 1930 to assist individuals in reclaiming money lost in financial cybercrimes in an effort to encourage people to file complaints right away as thousands of cybercrimes have been reported in Mumbai this year.
