United States: In a proffer to send astronauts to a future mission on Mars, US space agency NASA has invited applications for a year-long mission from the interested candidates.

Reportedly, the selected four crew will live in a stimulated Maritain exploration habitat to prepare for the real challenges in the future mission to Mars.

As per a report, NASA created a Mars Dune Alpha, a 1,700 sq ft martian habitat, by a 3D printer inside a building at Johnson Space Center in Houston.

In a statement, NASA said, "In an aim for the real-life challenges in future mission to the red planet, NASA will study how individuals react under the harsh of a yaer duration, ground based stimulation."

"NASA will imitate the challenges of a mission on Mars which will include resource limitations, communication delays and other environmental stressors. Crew member's duties will include scientific research, robotic controls, imitated spacewalk, transfer of communications and use of virtual reality." the statement added.

NASA tweeted, "Calling all Martians! @NASA is recruiting four crew members for a year-long mission that will simulate life on a distant world, living in "Mars Dune Alpha," a 3D-printed habitat. Want to take part in research for the first human Mars mission?"

According to the report, NASA is preparing for three missions known as crew health and performance exploration analog, with the first one starting next year.

The eligibility criteria for it are that it should be US citizens in the age groups of 30-55 years. Other criteria include proficiency in English, good physical health, non-smoker.

On the educational side, the applicant should have a master's degree in a STEM field such as engineering, mathematics or biological, physical, or computer science from government accredited institutions. Moreover, the statement read that the candidates should complete two years of work on a doctoral program in STEM, a medical degree, or a test pilot program.
