The NCW emphasized that the comment by Ahmad K, a Delhi resident, violates Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Digital Desk: A derogatory remark made about Smriti Singh, the widow of Captain Anshuman Singh, who was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra for his heroic actions at an Indian Army camp in the Siachen glacier, has sparked outrage on social media. Users are calling for action against the individual responsible for the insensitive comment. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has intervened, writing a letter to the Delhi Police urging immediate and appropriate action against the offender. The comment was directed at a photograph of Mrs. Singh receiving the award at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Captain Anshuman Singh, serving as a medical officer with 26 Punjab, received the Kirti Chakra after sacrificing his life while rescuing colleagues during a fire caused by a short circuit at the camp. His wife Smriti, along with his mother, received the award from President Droupadi Murmu. While tributes poured in for Captain Singh, one individual's disrespectful comment, labeled as "lewd" by the NCW, prompted widespread condemnation.

The NCW emphasized that the comment by Ahmad K, a Delhi resident, violates Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The commission strongly denounced this behavior and called for immediate police action. They have demanded the arrest of Ahmad K and requested a detailed report from the Delhi Police within three days.

Following the incident, numerous people tagged the NCW, demanding stringent action against the offender and others who shared screenshots of the offensive comment. Captain Singh's cremation with full state honors took place in Bhagalpur, Bihar, on July 22, 2023, after his courageous efforts were commemorated nationwide.
