Digital Desk: Police in Hailakandi made a significant breakthrough as they intercepted a luxury vehicle transporting a variety of rare bird and animal species. The operation, conducted by Bilaipur police, resulted in the rescue of numerous endangered creatures, such as a Babirusa, hornbill birds, black lory, and red and blue lory.

The rescued animals include a babirusa, two hornbill birds, five black lory, and 40 red and blue lory.

The animals, believed to have originated from Indonesia, were found concealed in a Fortuner vehicle attempting to exit the state via Hailakandi from Mizoram. The vehicle's driver, Moin Uddin Ali, and his companion, Shamsul Haque, have since been remanded into custody pending further legal proceedings.

Following their rescue, the animals were promptly presented before the Hailakandi court, which subsequently entrusted the forest department with their safekeeping. Forest officials took swift action to transfer approximately fifty of the rescued animals to the Assam State Zoo.
