New Delhi: Much awaited Tata Motors SUV ‘Punch’ today launched in the country, starting at Rs. 5.49 lakh up to Rs. 9.09 lakh for the top-version (both prices ex-showroom).


Reportedly, the Tata Punch is the company’s smallest SUV and is slurred below the Tata Nexon in the company’s line-up.


Punch will compete against Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Maruti Suzuki Swift. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and Mahindra KUV100 NXT are the two SUVs in India priced below the Punch.


The Punch, designed on the platform used by the Altroz premium hatchback, scored a crash safety rating of 5 from Global NCAP. In terms of safety, Punch offers dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera, traction pro mode (only in AMT), parametric alarm system, driver & co-driver seat belt reminders, tire puncture repair kit, front fog lamp with cornering function, seat Isofix anchor points and brake sway control.

The new SUV will be available in four variant-Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, Creative and with seven colours. Moreover, it will be available in manual and automatic manual transmission (AMT) versions.


For now, Punch will be available only with a petrol engine. It is powered with a BS6 1.2- liter Revotron petrol engine with Dyna-Pro technology that develops 86bhp and 113Nm of peak torque, coupled to both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT units. Depending on consumer feedback, the company will keep its options open for turbocharged and fully electric versions.


Moreover, Tata Motors claimed the new SUV has been tested for more than 2 million kilometers clocked on 150 prototypes and was driven in the hot condition of 50-degree Celsius in Rajasthan and cold conditions of minus 10 degrees Celsius in Ladakh.
