Digital Desk: According to Serbian officials, a teenage boy opened fire early on Wednesday in a school in the heart of Belgrade, causing injuries.

According to a statement from the police, they got a call about the shooting at the Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school at about 8.40 am (12.10 pm IST).

Police reported that the culprit, a student in the seventh grade, had been taken into custody. According to the statement, the youngster allegedly fired numerous shots from his father's revolver toward other students and the security guard at the school.

The guard was killed in the shooting, according to Serbian media. Police provided no additional information.

The Vladislav Ribnikar school is situated in the heart of Belgrade. There are eight grades in Serbia's primary schools.
