Tokyo: India’s boxing legend Mary Kom inching one step closer to a medal defeated Hernandez Garcia of the Dominican Republic in the opening round of the women’s flyweight (48-51kg) category.

40 years old, mother of four children, MC Mary Kom is one of India’s biggest medal hopes in the Olympics, she showed that age is just a number as she unleashed her 23-year-old opponent. She won the match by split decision 4-1.

Six-time World Champion and Olympic medallist MC Mary Kom has enough maturity and experience to size up her opponent in the initial few exchanges against her 23-year-old opponent.

India’s star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has already created history on Saturday as she overcame her Rio heartbreak to become the first Indian weightlifter to win the silver medal at the Olympic Games. Chanu also became the first Indian to win an Olympic medal at the 2020 Tokyo Games in the Women’s 49kg category.
