New Delhi: The University Grant Commission (UGC) has proclaimed 24 self-styled Institutes\Universities as fake and found two more institutes in violation of norms; it was detected based on the complaints received from parents, students and the general public and also through electronic and print media, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said.

Minister Dharmendra Pradhan made the statement in response to a question during the question hour in the ongoing parliament session.

Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “Besides the 24 institute, two more institute namely Bharatiya Shiksha Parishad, Lucknow and Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), New Delhi are also found violating the UGC Act, 1956. The matter of both the institute are sub-judice in the court.”

Stressing about the actions taken against the fake institute, the        Union Minister asserted that already UGC issued a public notice listing the fake Institutes/universities in national Hindi and English newspapers.

“To take strict actions against the fake universities/institutes the commission has written to the state Chief Secretaries, Education Secretaries and Principal secretaries.” the Union Minister added.

Moreover, the Union Minister said, “Show cause and warning notices are issued to the unauthorized institutes awarding invalid degrees when any self-styled institution is found or noticed functioning in violation of the UGC Act, 1956.”

Reportedly, Uttar Pradesh has the highest Fake Universities/Institutes namely- Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi, Mahila Gram Vidyapith, Allahabad, Gandhi Hindi Vidyapith, Allahabad, National University of Electro Complex Homeopathy, Kanpur, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Open University, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh Vishwavidyalaya, Mathura, Maharana Pratap Shiksha Niketan Vishwavidyalaya, Pratapgarh and

Indraprastha Shiksha Parishad, Noida.

While, New Delhi holds the second position in the list of fake institutes, namely- Commercial University Ltd, United Nations University, Vocational University, ADR Centric Juridicial University, Indian Institution of Science and Engineering, Vishwakarma Open University for Self Employment and Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalaya (Spiritual University).

Odisha and West Bengal have four universities/institutes, namely- Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine, Kolkata, Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research, Kolkata, Nababharat Shiksha Parishad, Rourkela, North Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology.

While in Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, and Maharashtra have four fake Universities/Institutes, namely- Sree Bodhi Academy of Higher Education, Puducherry, Christ New Testament Deemed University, Andhra Pradesh, Raja Arabic University, Nagpur; St John’s University, Kerala, Badaganvi Sarkar World Open University Education Society, Karnataka.
