New Delhi: Star wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been suspended by the Wrestling Federation of India for indiscipline during her campaign at the Tokyo Olympics. Phogat has been served a notice on three counts and she has time until August 16 to reply to the notice.

Vinesh, who crashed out of the Olympics after losing to Belarus’ Vanesa Kaladzinskya, did not stay at the Olympics village, refused to wear a wrestling singlet with the team sponsor’s logo, and competed in a singlet with a personal sponsor Nike’s logo.

Reports have cropped up of Vinesh Phogat creating ‘ruckus’ when she was allotted a room near the rooms of her India teammates Sonam Malik, Anshu Malik, and Seema Bisla said news agency PTI.

Phogat argued that she might contract covid-19 if she stays near the wrestlers as they had traveled to Tokyo from India.

Sonam Malik was also served a notice for her alleged misconduct at the Tokyo Olympics even before the start of her campaign.
