The Congress was very optimistic about winning this time. It was dependent on the anti-incumbency factor as well as minority votes from South Goa. The AAP and the TMC, on the other hand, played spoiler.

Digital Desk: The Congress in Goa was so confident of victory in the Goa Legislative Assembly elections that it sought the appointment of the Governor for Thursday, 3 p.m., to stake a claim for the formation of a government. To prevent horse trading after the votes were counted, the party secured its MLAs in a resort. Senior leaders gathered in Goa for talks with other parties. But it was all in vain. The party was dissatisfied with the Vidhan Sabha results. It is now evident that the Congress would have to sit in opposition in Goa for the next five years. The BJP benefited from a very split opposition. "Congress needs to do introspection. Also, TMC and AAP dented us," Congress leader Michael Lobo told ABP News, conceding the party's defeat. The Goa Congress lacked dynamic leaders. The TMC stole its mainstay Luzinho Falerio a few months ago. A few more well-known figures have also joined opposing parties. The Congress was largely counting on figures such as Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo, both of whom were seeking the CM's office in the hopes that the party would win. Bidang Fighting Guwahati
